Nolan FernandezThe NFL season can be a very lucrative season for many sports handicappers but if you are not careful with your picks, it can be a losing proposition. As is the case
in all aspects of sports handicapping, there are no sure things when picking NFL games. I just have what I call, "Things to look for." If I want to bet a side then I look for a team on their
second road game in a row and I keep an eye out for West Coast teams that are on the East Coast. I am not saying take ALL of these situations but look for them as there is a lot
of value. When I am looking for a total bet, there are three things I like to look for in my picks and it begins with weather. I know guys that like to pick against high totals in the rain and snow but
my favorite weather aversion is wind. If you see a total between the high 40's and low 50's being played in winds of 15 miles or more, pick the UNDER. I think wind affects the OVER/UNDER more than anything else. Play calling, passing and kicking is all affected
in a negative way thus leading to UNDERs. Another couple things to look for when handicapping NFL totals are, dome teams playing on grass early in the year (they will be slower) and hot offenses versus cold defenses (this may not be reflected in the
spread. Like I said before, in sports handicapping there are no sure thing, I think that is the one thing you can get every sports handicapper to agree on. But every sports handicapper
needs a place to start, and in the NFL these are my favorite places to start when handicapping games. |
