Margin for Error

Words from a great sports handicapper: Make your margin for error as big as possible. This can be a pretty tricky part of sports handicapping but it is very important. What I mean by margin for error is, if you see Kansas is favored by 2 against Texas in college basketball and you think Kansas will win but it will be a pretty good game then stay away! In order to bet that game you have to think Kansas will win by at least 8 or more. In this case, there is bound to be a better game on the board to bet and if not then you should just pass on the day. The same thing goes for college football, NFL, and MLB baseball. The last thing we are looking for as sports handicappers is a good game. A good game to us is your team covering the whole game by a wide margin. Having a big margin for error can help you with picking underdogs, favorites and totals. I have been in this industry for a long time and the only way I have been able to find success picking games is by leaving myself a wide margin for error. In the different sports the margin is different but the strategies are the same. In football, the margin should be 7 points. You should think that your team will win by at least 7 more points than the line says. In NBA and college basketball, it should be at least 5 more points than the line states and in baseball it should be by at least 2 runs. Stick with this strategy and pass on the close games and you will up your winning percentage over-night!
