Penguins Look to Continue Playoff Drive vs Struggling Canadiens Tonight

Another WINNER last night with the OVER 6.5 in Florida vs Philly although I do have to say I was a bit surprised the Panthers came out and laid an egg on home ice while the Flyers continued to make a nice run towards a playoff spot. They all count though and in reality all we cared about is that the RED LIGHT got turned on 8 times in the game! Glad I stayed away from adding any other plays off the games I had been considering as they took the gas pipe! DISCIPLINE my friends. Too many games leads to many trips to the ATM to pay your man!

Let’s continue to roll tonight by taking theĀ PITTSBURGH PENGUINS -.5 (-125) VS Montreal Canadiens (Regulation Time)

The Penguins are definitely battle tested right now after a long sustained run of games against some of the best teams the Atlantic Division has to offer. Their last seven games have been against the likes of Tampa (2), Boston, Washington, Philadelphia (2) and Florida. The Pens have managed to go 4-3 during that time with two of the losses coming in highly entertaining titls vs the Lightning.

Depsite that recent tough stretch of games the Penguins still boast points in 10 of their last 13 games overall going 9-3-1 over that span. “Sid’s Kids” are 12-2-2 in their last 16 games at PPG Paints Arena and a very nifty 19-5-4 for the season on their home ice. One of their home ice losses came back on Dec. 10 by a 4-1 score vs these CanadiensĀ  so despite gaining revenge on Montreal’s home ice in January you can bet the Pens have not forgotten that setback in Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile the Hab’s, who will be without the services of stud defenseman and captain Shea Weber for the next 4-6 weeks due to an ankle injury, had been hot prior to Weber’s departure from the line-up winning nine of 12. Unfortunately they have dropped two in a row since then managing only three goals in the two losses. They have also failed to score more than two goals in regulation time in four straight games. Those recent losses have knocked the Canadiens eight points out of the 2nd Wild Card slot entering Thursday’s tilt.

The Penguins added some new blood to the line-up with the trade for Jason Zucker, who admittedly struggled a bit in his debut the other night, and his presence and speed on the top line with Crosby should not take long to pay dividends. The Pens have two more home games after tonight’s battle with Montreal as they try to track down Metropolitan division leading Washington.

Pittsburgh really seems to thrive in these pressure playoff like games because of a very talented and experienced core group led by Crosby, Malkin and Letang. This one will probably be tight checking and close through the early stages but I like the Pen’s to pull away late for the victory.
